Paramount Pictures has released the trailer for Derek Cianfrance’s “Roofman” starring Channing Tatum, Kirsten Dunst, Ben Mendelsohn, LaKeith Stanfield, Juno Temple, Melonie Diaz, Uzo Aduba, Lily Collias, Jimmy O. Yang & Peter Dinklage. The film will be released in theaters on October 10th.
Plot Synopsis: Based on an unbelievable true story, Roofman follows Jeffrey Manchester (Channing Tatum), a former Army Ranger and struggling father who turns to robbing McDonald’s restaurants by cutting holes in their roofs, earning him the nickname: Roofman. After escaping prison, he secretly lives inside a Toys “R” Us for six months, surviving undetected while planning his next move. But when he falls for Leigh (Kirsten Dunst), a divorced mom drawn to his undeniable charm, his double life begins to unravel, setting off a compelling and suspenseful game of cat and mouse as his past closes in.
What do you all think of the trailer? Going off of Cianfrance’s previous work, “Blue Valentine,” “The Place Beyond The Pines,” “The Light Between Oceans,” and an Oscar-nominated story by credit on “Sound Of Metal” (not to mention HBO’s depressing Emmy Award-winning miniseries “I Know This Much Is True”), it’s refreshing to see him incorporating some comedy into his work to tell a story about an escaped convict hiding out in a Toys “R” Us while he tries to piece his life back together. I feel that this will be a strong character study and offer Channing Tatum a wonderful role that plays to his strengths. Some may underestimate this, but Cianfrance’s track record speaks for itself, and I suspect the movie, although undeniably more broadly appealing than some of his other work, will contain the same level of quality we’re accustomed to from him. I suspect a TIFF world premiere for this one, but what do you all think? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below or on our X account.
