Netflix has released the teaser trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein,” starring Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Charles Dance & Christoph Waltz. The film will be released this November.
Plot Synopsis: Set in Eastern Europe in the 19th Century, Dr. Pretorious has to track down Frankenstein’s Monster—believed to have died in a fire 40 years before—in order to continue the experiments of Dr. Victor Frankenstein.
What do you all think of the trailer? Retaining the look and style of “The Shape Of Water” and “Nightmare Alley” while containing some of the darkest imagery since “Crimson Peak,” Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” is beyond perfect material for Guillermo del Toro to adapt for the big screen. It’s easily my most anticipated film of the year. A master filmmaker in every respect, this teaser showcases what appears to be a brilliant performance from Oscar Isaac, Dan Laustsen’s gorgeous cinematography, and the detailed, immersive production design. While I wish we had gotten a better look at Elordi’s monster, it appears this is going the “Nosferatu” route, where they will hold off on fully revealing him until people see the movie, which, despite my anxious desires, is the correct move. Heavy on atmosphere and with more action than some might’ve expected, this looks like the real deal for Netflix this awards season. I’m sure del Toro will ensure the story’s themes resonate in ways that will transcend the genre. Knowing Netflix, they will likely have this premiere at Venice, then head over to Telluride and TIFF.
