This year’s Cannes Film Festival will forever be special to me as it was my first time attending the international festival in person. As we do every year at Next Best Picture, we view the Cannes Film Awards as the first official precursor for this year’s awards season. Last year’s Palme d’Or winner “Triangle Of Sadness” went on to receive a Best Picture nomination and two additional Oscar nominations, while Grand Prix co-winner “Close” received a nomination for Best International Feature alongside the Jury Prize co-winner “EO.”
This year’s In Competition included “About Dry Grasses,” “Anatomy Of A Fall,” “Asteroid City,” “Banel & Adama,” “Black Flies,” “A Brighter Tomorrow,” “Club Zero,” “Fallen Leaves,” “Firebrand,” “Four Daughters,” “Homecoming,” “Kidnapped,” “La Chimera,” “The Pot-Au-Feu,” “Last Summer,” “May December,” “Monster,” “The Old Oak,” “Perfect Days,” “Youth (Spring)” & “The Zone Of Interest.”
The jury selecting the winners for this year’s In Competition awards included Jury President Ruben Östlund (“The Square“), Paul Dano (“The Fabelmans“), Julia Ducournau (“Titane“), Brie Larson (“Room“), Denis Ménochet (“Beau Is Afraid“), Rungano Nyoni (“I Am Not A Witch”), Atiq Rahimi (“Our Lady Of The Nile”), Damián Szifrón (“To Catch A Killer“) & Maryam Touzani (“The Blue Caftan“).
