Trailer – “Wild Horse Nine”

Searchlight Pictures has released the trailer for Martin McDonagh’s “Wild Horse Nine” starring John Malkovich, Sam Rockwell, Steve Buscemi, Mariana di Girolamo, Ailín Salas, Tom Waits, and Parker Posey. The film will be released in theaters on November 6th.

Plot Synopsis: Shortly before the 1973 Chilean coup, CIA agents Chris (John Malkovich) and Lee (Sam Rockwell) are dispatched from Santiago to Easter island by their bureau chief, MJ (Steve Buscemi). Amongst the Island’s iconic statues, and as the longtime partners wrestle with their dark pasts and present conspiracies, Chris’s newfound bond with a pair of rebellious students (Mariana di Girolamo and Ailín Salas) threatens to send everyone’s trip to this remote paradise sideways.

What do you all think of the trailer? I adore Martin McDonagh. I love his writing, how he casts his films, and I feel his direction has improved with each film since his debut feature, 2008’s “In Bruges,” up until his best film to date, 2022’s “The Banshees Of Inisherin.” His latest film, “Wild Horse Nine,” appears to be a combination of those two films, but without Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, and with Sam Rockwell and John Malkovich (you even have Steve Buscemi playing what appears to be the Ralph Fiennes role from “In Bruges“). The dark humor is here, the locale and time period give this a political edge I’m curious to see McDonagh explore further, and there definitely seems to be something in both of these characters’ pasts that is only vaguely hinted at in the trailer. As per usual with McDonagh, expect some thoughtful and dark surprises. I, for one, cannot wait. One of my most anticipated of the year, and who cannot wait to hear Malkovich spewing McDonagh dialogue? I mean, c’mon now. Do I expect this to be an Oscar hit on the level of “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” or “The Banshees Of Inisherin?” No. Do I expect a great movie, regardless? Absolutely. A Venice world premiere, followed by a stop in Toronto before opening, is expected, as that’s exactly what “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” and “The Banshees Of Inisherin” did before. But what do you all think? What do you all think of the trailer? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below or on our X account.
