Warner Bros. has released the trailer for “Lee Cronin’s The Mummy” (or just “The Mummy”) starring Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, May Calamawy, Natalie Grace, and Veronica Falcón. The film is written and directed by Cronin, and produced by James Wan, Jason Blum, and John Keville. The film will be released in theaters on April 17th.
Plot Synopsis: The young daughter of a journalist disappears into the desert without a trace—eight years later, the broken family is shocked when she is returned to them, as what should be a joyful reunion turns into a living nightmare.
What do you all think of the trailer? After “Evil Dead Rise,” I believe Lee Cronin has earned my trust, despite me being a lukewarm on his debut feature film “The Hole In The Ground.” So, forgive me if I’m not initially head over heels in love with this trailer or even this take on “The Mummy” property. But hey! At least it’s going for straight, gnarly horror as opposed to whatever the hell Tom Cruise tried to do in 2017. The makeup effects in particular look equally awesome and gross, and it’s nice to see Jack Reynor in another horror film again after his memorable turn in “Midsommar.” Still, I think the real standout is going to be Natalie Grace as the titular Mummy, this time in the form of a little girl (every major Hollywood studio’s favorite horror movie stereotype). I’m a bit apprehensive about this, but hopefully it will be another Blumhouse hit rather than a miss. What do you think, though?
