My Predictions For The 2025 Critics Choice Award (CCA) Film Nominations

The Critics’ Choice Award (CCA) will announce its nominations in all categories for the 31st annual Critics’ Choice Awards tomorrow. A special BTL Nominating Committee was created to provide shortlists for voting in 11 below-the-line categories, which helps with predictions this year. However, for the most part, there’s still some doubt about how tomorrow’s nominations will play out.

Will “Avatar: Fire And Ash,” which was only eligible through write-in votes after the initial ballots were already sent to the membership, have as good a day as the first two films did? Will the organization be as receptive towards “Wicked: For Good” as they were with last year’s “Wicked?” And what about all of the international titles in contention this year? Critics’ Choice has a history of mostly ignoring international films that go on to become eventual Oscar Best Picture nominees. “Drive My Car,” “The Zone Of Interest,” “Anatomy Of A Fall,” and last year’s “I’m Still Here” all failed to receive Best Picture nominations from CCA. So, this year, until proven otherwise, I’m expecting them to do the same, even if certain contenders (specifically from NEON) eventually go on to receive Oscar nominations for Best Picture and are nominated elsewhere tomorrow.

Notably, three new categories have been added to this year’s show on the film side: Best Stunt Design, Best Casting and Ensemble, and Best Sound, so expect a film such as “Sinners” or “One Battle After Another” to possibly set a new nomination record tomorrow, besting the previous CCA nomination record-holder, “Barbie” (18). Let’s take some guesses and and see where things end up tomorrow…
