Trailer – “The Smashing Machine”

A24 has released the trailer for Benny Safdie‘s “The Smashing Machine,” starring Dwayne Johnson & Emily Blunt. The film will be released in theaters on October 3rd.

Plot Synopsis: The story of mixed-martial arts and UFC champion Mark Kerr.

What do you all think of the trailer? The Rock is acting?! Like, really acting? We’ve known for a while if any project in the megastar’s filmography would gain him some industry respect (outside of the box office dollars he can draw and muscles he can grow), it would be Benny Safdie’s UFC sports biopic drama about Mark Kerr. The trailer doesn’t disappoint, showcasing the film’s grounded and gritty approach to Kerr’s story with a fully transformative performance from Dwayne Johnson that I’m sure many will proclaim to be the best of his career and is arriving at a time when the blockbuster star really needs it. Emily Blunt seems to be saddled with the supportive wife role, but she can make just about anything work, and it’s already been proven that she and Johnson have good chemistry on-screen together. I’m excited to see how the two actors work within this space and how much Dwayne stretches himself. Could we be calling him an Oscar nominee this year? How do you think Safdie will do as a solo director without his brother? Where do you think this will have its world premiere? Venice? Telluride? TIFF? Lots of questions with this one, but I’m pretty pumped, nonetheless. What do you think? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below or on our X account.
