Apple has released the teaser trailer for Paul Greengrass’ “The Lost Bus” starring Matthew McConaughey, America Ferrera, Yul Vazquez & Ashlie Atkinson. The film will be released this fall on Apple TV+.
Plot Synopsis: A bus driver has to navigate a bus carrying children and their teacher to safety through the 2018 Camp Fire, which became the deadliest fire in California history.
What do you all think of the trailer? We know that Greengrass can deliver a harrowing true story with a sense of scale and tension; see “Captain Phillips” and “United 93” if you haven’t already. But he’s also been inconsistent throughout his entire career, with some films landing better than others and some missing the mark entirely. Still, when this trailer kicks in, Greengrass’ signature urgency (usually accompanied by handheld camerawork) hits you immediately. This is a teaser, so we don’t see much, but we know there will be a level of scale to this (and emotional resonance given what many in LA went through with the fires last year), given the real-life event that will play nicely into Greengrass’ strengths. We haven’t seen Matthew McConaughey on screen since 2019, and between this and “The Rivals Of Amziah King,” I’m excited to see him back again, and this appears to be a very dramatic role for him. If Greengrass brings even half the visceral realism he’s known for here, “The Lost Bus” could be another awards contender for him and Apple this year. What do you think, though?
