Focus Features has released the trailer for Michael Chaves’s “The Conjuring: Last Rites,” starring Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga, Ben Hardy & Mia Tomlinson. The film will be released in theaters on September 5th.
Plot Synopsis: The ninth installment in “The Conjuring” universe follows paranormal investigators Ed & Lorraine Warren on their last case, their most personal one yet.
What do you all think of the trailer? For all the memorable scares “The Conjuring” films have given us, Wilson and Farmiga have always been the beating heart of the franchise, and this time the demons seem to be following them home. While the film’s exact plot has been kept under wraps, the film is purportedly based on the Smurl family haunting, and is less of a murder mystery than the franchise’s last installment, “The Devil Made Me Do It.” The trailer is littered with the series’s trademark misdirection-based jump scares as well as all the haunted relics we’ve seen the Warrens collect over the years, teasing a potential battle royale between the Warrens and the demons they’ve fought. Getting the Warrens’ family involved should bring a deeply emotional element to the film that will let Wilson and Farmiga shine and set the film apart from the others in the franchise. Do you think this will be a satisfying conclusion to the Warrens’ story? Does it even matter if they’re charlatans in real life?
