Trailer – “The Cat In The Hat”

Warner Bros. Animation Studios has released the trailer for “The Cat In The Hat,” starring Bill Hader, Xochitl Gomez, Matt Berry, Quinta Brunson, Paula Pell, Tiago Martinez, Giancarlo Esposito, America Ferrera, Bowen Yang & Tituss Burgess. The film will be released in theaters on February 27th, 2026.

Plot Synopsis: Meet the Cat in the Hat you don’t know! In the wonderfully whimsical tradition of Dr. Seuss, “The Cat in the Hat” comes to the big screen in his animated theatrical feature film debut, an all-new, epic adventure with an edge, where mischief, magic, and mayhem reign supreme. Doing what he does best, the Cat—voiced by Bill Hader—spreads joy to kids in his hilarious, signature, and singularly irreverent way, transporting them and audiences on a fantastical journey through a world they’ve never seen before. In the film, our hero takes on his toughest assignment yet for the I.I.I.I. (Institute for the Institution of Imagination and Inspiration, LLC)to cheer Gabby and Sebastian, a pair of siblings struggling with their move to a new town. Known for taking things too far, this could be this agent of chaos’s last chance to prove himself…or lose his magical hat!

What do you all think of the trailer? While this won’t be a Best Animated Feature contender for this year, it could find its way into the conversation next year. A generation ago, we were gifted the absolutely bonkers and completely ridiculous live-action version of “The Cat In The Hat” starring Mike Myers following the success of Jim Carrey’s live-action version of “The Grinch.” That film was a disaster all the way through (despite some imaginative work from cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki), so wisely, Warner Bros. decided to make this an animated film that resembles what Illumination has done with the “The Grinch” character. We have the success of “The Lorax” to thank for this, though, as that is the level of quality Warner Bros. Animation is chasing here. Clearly aimed at kids, the trailer doesn’t do much for me personally, but at least the filmmakers (directors Alessandro Carloni and Erica Rivinoja) were wise enough to utilize the comedic brilliance of Bill Hader, who I’m sure will make this enjoyable enough.
