Searchlight Pictures has released the trailer for Hikari’s “Rental Family,” starring Brendan Fraser, Mari Yamamoto, Takehiro Hira & Akira Emoto. The film will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, and will be released in theaters on November 21st.
Plot Synopsis: A Japanese rental company hires struggling American actor in Tokyo. He plays various roles in clients’ lives, embarking on an introspective journey through these unlikely experiences.
What do you all think of the trailer? I love how this trailer seems to be perfectly capturing the warmth that Brendan Fraser brings to the screen, but also his fragility. This looks like it will be a heartwarming, small-scale but crowd-pleasing film that Searchlight knows how to execute all too well. It’s no surprise that this film is premiering in Toronto, where the crowds will be particularly kind, and it’s likely to set it on a trajectory for this year’s awards season if it wins the People’s Choice Award. Audiences are still on Fraser’s side, whether they loved his Oscar win for “The Whale” or not, and Hikari is an exciting talent behind the camera that many will look to champion as well. Overall, this trailer and the marketing campaign are doing a stellar job so far. Now, to see if this is “Lost In Translation” for a new generation or a sweet but middle-of-the-road also-ran for this year’s Oscar race. I’m really looking forward to it and to see which of the supporting performances stand out. What do you think though? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below or on our X account.
