Trailer – “Project Hail Mary”

Amazon MGM Studios has released the trailer for Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s new film, “Project Hail Mary,” starring Ryan Gosling, Sandra Hüller, Milana Vayntrub, Lionel Boyce, and Ken Leung. The film will be released in theaters on March 20th, 2026.

Plot Synopsis: 11.9 Light-years from home. 6th grade science teacher. 1 chance to save us all.

What do you all think of the trailer? It feels great to see Phil Lord & Chris Miller, two of the most ingenious minds in the industry right now, working in the live-action space (no pun intended) again. The plot almost feels like it’s borrowing from “Armageddon,” as a blue-collar teacher is asked to venture into space despite having no prior experience and save humanity. And there also appears to be elements of “The Martian” sprinkled in for good measure. This is based on a 2011 science fiction novel by Andy Weir, who also wrote “The Martian,” so I’m not surprised. While this appears to be more fun than Gosling’s last venture into space with “First Man,” the imagery, including the visual effects, looks downright spectacular. Also, it’s great seeing Sandra Huller pop up in more projects following the success of her Oscar-nominated performance in “Anatomy Of A Fall.” Mixing comedy with drama and sci-fi thrills, “Project Hail Mary” appears to have everything one could want, so why is it releasing in March of 2026? It feels weird to be getting the trailer this early. Why wouldn’t Amazon be pushing to have this release moved from March to a 2025 awards qualifying window? Early word from Amazon internally suggests the film is going to be a big hit, so what gives? What do you all think, though?
