NEON has released the teaser trailer for Park Chan-wook’s “No Other Choice,” starring Lee Byung-hun, Son Ye-jin, Park Hee-soon, Lee Sung-min, Yeom Hye-ran, and Cha Seung-won. The film will have its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival and later be released in theaters this fall.
Plot Synopsis: After being unemployed for several years, a man devises a unique plan to secure a new job: eliminate his competition.
What do you all think of the trailer? Park Chan-wook is one of the world’s masterful filmmakers and while I was disappointed his latest wasn’t ready in time for Cannes, we are getting it this year for Venice and NEON will be looking to get the acclaimed South Korean filmmaker his first Oscar nomination, whether that’s for Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay or even Best Picture. Best International Feature would also be significant, as it would be the first time a South Korean film was nominated in the category since Bong Joon-ho’s “Parasite.” Many felt Chan-wook’s “Decision To Leave” would pull this off a few years ago, but it wasn’t meant to be. Chan-wook’s filmmaking looks as sharp and gorgeous as ever, with numerous stunning shots throughout this trailer. Considering the storyline centers on class and the divide between the employed and unemployed, it may be timely enough to resonate with Academy voters this time around. Regardless of its awards season chances, this is one of the most anticipated films of the year from one of our best living filmmakers. But what do you think, though?
