Lionsgate has released the trailer for Aziz Ansari’s “Good Fortune,” starring Seth Rogen, Aziz Ansari, Keke Palmer, Sandra Oh, and Keanu Reeves. The comedy film will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and later be released in theaters on October 17th.
Plot Synopsis: In GOOD FORTUNE, a well-meaning but rather inept angel named Gabriel (Keanu Reeves) meddles in the lives of a struggling gig worker (Aziz Ansari) and a wealthy venture capitalist (Seth Rogen).
What do you all think of the trailer? I’ve always found Aziz Ansari to be a clever, funny guy, and it probably took too long for his directorial debut to make its way to the big screen, but I’m happy it’s finally happening. His work on Netflix’s award-winning “Master Of None” was some of the best of the decade, and I think this film has a very fun premise with a great cast. So why is the trailer not that funny? It feels like it should be funnier, but maybe that’s because I’ve recently been spoiled by “The Naked Gun” and all other humor seems off by comparison. Though that line Reeves has about how wealth has solved all of Aziz’s problems (and pretty much all of Reeves’s line readings in this trailer) got a nice chuckle out of me. I think Aziz will display the same warmth and depth he put into “Master Of None,” and this story will have more on its mind than just surface-level humor. But how will audiences respond to it? I guess we’ll find out when it world premieres at Toronto. I’m excited but a little timid. But what do you think, though? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below or on our X account.
