Trailer – “Asteroid City”

Focus Features has released the official trailer for Wes Anderson’s “Asteroid City” starring Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Stephen Park, Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, Tony Revolori, Jake Ryan, and Jeff Goldblum. The film will release in theaters on June 16th.

Plot Synopsis: The itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention (organized to bring together students and parents from across the country for fellowship and scholarly competition) is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.

What do you all think of the trailer?

I may not be the biggest fan of Wes Anderson compared to most, but I’ve appreciated his work a lot more as time has gone on and always respected that he has a singular vision and voice within the filmmaking landscape. There’s truly no one else out there quite like him, and that continues to be the case with his latest film “Asteroid City.” The visual aesthetic certainly looks different color and tone-wise compared to his previous work while retaining that same familiar Wes Anderson feeling we’ve all come to know and love. While it does not look like it will reach the heights of something like “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” a new Wes Anderson film is always a reason for celebration, and many are looking forward to seeing him working with Tom Hanks, Steve Carell and Margot Robbie for the first time, amongst others. The film is expected to have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. “Asteroid City” will be the first of two films the director will have released in 2023, the second being “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar,” which will be released by Netflix later this year and also stars Rupert Friend but will have an entirely different cast.
