Trailer – “Anemone”

Focus Features has released the teaser trailer for Ronan Day-Lewis’s debut feature “Anemone,” starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Sean Bean, Samuel Bottomley, Safia Oakley-Green, and Samantha Morton. The film will have its world premiere at the New York Film Festival, and then be released in select US cinemas on October 13th before expanding to theaters nationwide on October 10th.

Plot Synopsis: Jem (Sean Bean) sets out from his suburban home on a journey into the woods in Northern England, where he reconnects with his estranged hermit brother Ray (Day-Lewis) in the hopes of freeing him from his self-imposed isolation.

What do you all think of the trailer? At long last, we finally have our first look at “Anemone,” which not only marks the debut feature of Ronan Day-Lewis but also the return of Daniel Day-Lewis, who hasn’t starred in a film in nearly a decade since Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Phantom Thread” in 2017. The father-son duo also co-wrote the screenplay, a first in Daniel’s career. Day-Lewis’s retirement from acting almost seems fitting considering his character in “Anemone” is one who has secluded himself from the world, as his estranged brother is hoping to reconnect him not only to society, but also to his loved ones. Whatever one expected of Ronan’s debut, the trailer certainly dispels many concerns. The cinematography by Ben Fordesman looks stunning, as the atmosphere of “Anemone” appears to be far more haunting—a darkly thrilling exploration of the complex ties that bond brothers, fathers, and sons. “Anemone” seems more than fitting as a first-time collaboration between Daniel and Ronan. Throw in a slew of heavyweight performances from Sean Bean and Samantha Morton, and we might be witnessing something special here. Those eagerly anticipating “Anemone” won’t have to wait long as the film will have its world premiere at this year’s New York Film Festival, followed by its release in October.
