“The Inspection” had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and later screened at the New York Film Festival (NYFF) as the Closing Night Film. Elegance Bratton’s feature directorial debut pulls from his own life experiences to tell a powerful, inspiring story of a Black gay man who joined the Marines when he had nowhere else to turn to in life for love, support, or purpose. Stars Jeremy Pope and Raúl Castillo were kind enough to spend a few minutes talking with Dan Bayer and I about their characters in the film, working with Elegance, going to “boot camp,” how important the story is for today’s society, and more. Enjoy, and please check out the film in limited release from A24 on November 18th and then going wide on December 2nd. Thank you!
