Jessie Buckley And Paul Mescal To Star In Chloé Zhao’s “Hamnet” Adaptation

According to Deadline, Paul Mescal (“Aftersun“) and Jessie Buckley (“The Lost Daughter“) are in talks to star in Academy Award-winner Chloé Zhao’s (“Nomadland“) adaptation of the Maggie O’Farrell novel “Hamnet.” O’Farrell will pen the screenplay along with Zhao.

The novel is a historical fiction focusing on a woman named Agnes (played by Buckley) as she balances dealing with the loss of her only child Hamnet and her marriage to the iconic William Shakespeare.

We’ve heard nothing but great things about this novel. Having the original author and someone as talented as Zhao adapt this story alongside O’ Farrell is a winning combination that could result in a future Oscar player. Then you add Buckley and Mescal’s awe-inspiring and exciting acting talent, and you have the potential for something unique. Some were wondering if Zhao would continue to work with bigger budgeted projects after her work on “Eternals,” but it appears she’ll be returning to work in the realm she made her name in with acclaimed films such as “The Rider” and “Nomadland.”

What do you think about Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal as the stars for Hamnet? Do you think Chloé Zhao will deliver on adapting the novel? Please let us know in the comments section below or over on our Twitter account.
