Netflix has released the trailer for their upcoming film “Train Dreams” starring Joel Edgerton, Felicity Jones, Clifton Collins Jr., Kerry Condon, and William H. Macy. The latest film from director Clint Bentley, based on the book of the same name by Denis Johnson, will be released in theaters on November 7th before streaming on Netflix on November 21st.
Plot Synopsis: Based on Denis Johnson’s beloved novella, “Train Dreams” is the moving portrait of Robert Grainier, a logger and railroad worker who leads a life of unexpected depth and beauty in the rapidly-changing America of the early 20th Century.
What do you all think of the trailer? The film premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where I was able to see it. It’s an undeniably beautiful piece of art, especially thanks to the Adolpho Veloso’s stunning cinematography and the gorgeous score by Bryce Dessner. Not to mention, Joel Edgerton turns in what just might be the best performance of his career as a quiet, determined man who we watch experience decades of hardship, joy, and heartbreak. The big question is, will the Academy respond to the movie? The filmmaking team of Clint Bentley and Greg Kwedar (here, Bentley directs a script written by both of them) came seemingly very close to a Best Picture nomination with last year’s “Sing Sing.” That film, which was directed by Kwedar, scored three Oscar nominations for Best Actor, Adapted Screenplay, and Song, and it’s very possible that “Train Dreams” could be a contender in those exact same categories, plus others.
