Sony Pictures has released the official trailer for Jeymes Samuel’s “The Book Of Clarence” starring LaKeith Stanfield, Omar Sy, RJ Cyler, Benedict Cumberbatch, James McAvoy, Caleb McLaughlin, Anna Diop, David Oyelowo, Alfre Woodard, Marianne Jean-Baptiste & Jacobi Howard. The film will be released in theaters on January 12th, 2024.
Plot Synopsis: From visionary filmmaker Jeymes Samuel, “The Book of Clarence” is a bold new take on the timeless Biblical-era epic. Streetwise but down-on-his-luck, Clarence (LaKeith Stanfield) is struggling to find a better life for his family, while fighting to free himself of debt. Captivated by the power and glory of the rising Messiah and His apostles, he risks everything to carve his own path to a divine life, and ultimately discovers that the redemptive power of belief may be his only way out. The film features new music by Jeymes Samuel, JAY-Z, and more.
What do you all think of the trailer? We were all pretty big fans of Jeymes Samuel’s feature directorial debut, “The Harder They Fall,” and he looks to be continuing to announce his voice as one of the most prominent and distinctive within the cinematic landscape. The tone of this trailer is certainly taking on a satirical approach, making fun of biblical epics, and will surely contain its fair share of criticism of religion. The cast looks absolutely magnetic, as does Samuel’s direction. Many are wondering if Sony will give this a limited theatrical run in December before its wide release in January to allow it to contend for awards this year, but judging by the type of film this is, I can see why they’re perhaps holding off as it looks like it will drum up some level of controversy.
