Trailer – “Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere”

20th Century Studios has released the trailer for Scott Cooper’s “Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere” starring Jeremy Allen White, Jeremy Strong, Paul Walter Hauser, Odessa Young, Stephen Graham, Gaby Hoffmann & David Krumholtz. The film will be released in theaters on October 24th.

Plot Synopsis: From 20th Century Studios, “Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere” chronicles the making of Bruce Springsteen’s 1982 “Nebraska” album when he was a young musician on the cusp of global superstardom, struggling to reconcile the pressures of success with the ghosts of his past. Recorded on a 4-track recorder in Springsteen’s New Jersey bedroom, the album marked a pivotal time in his life and is considered one of his most enduring works—a raw, haunted acoustic record populated by lost souls searching for a reason to believe.

What do you all think of the trailer? I’m thrilled Jeremy Allen White has been able to capitalize on the popularity of “The Bear,” which has led to more opportunities for him in the film world between this and “The Iron Claw.” Yes, it’s another music-biopic, and yes, it’s from Scott Cooper, a filmmaker I continue to like despite him never having made a truly great film, in my opinion. But the combined efforts of White (who looks to be channeling some of that internal pain he brings to “The Bear” to deliver a performance that is more understated here) and recently Oscar-nominated Jeremy Strong (“The Apprentice“) might be able to give this the juice it needs to make it stand out and deliver tremendous impact, especially as it pertains to his abusive relationship with his father (played here by Stephen Graham). I love the look and melancholy feel of how Cooper is presenting the film, and although I’m personally not the biggest Springsteen fan, I’m looking forward to seeing these performances and if Cooper can have his biggest critical, audience, and Oscar success yet. I think this premieres at Telluride, but what do you all think? Are White and Strong heading for an awards season run? Will this be just another “A Complete Unknown” or something more?
