Trailer – “Reptile”

Netflix has released the official trailer for Grant Singer’s “Reptile” starring Benicio Del Toro, Justin Timberlake, and Alicia Silverstone. The film will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, then arrive on Netflix on October 6th.

Plot Synopsis: Following the brutal murder of a young real estate agent, a hardened detective attempts to uncover the truth in a case where nothing is as it seems, and by doing so dismantles the illusions in his own life.

What do you all think of the trailer? This looks like your typical, dark, atmospheric thriller that may get some people talking for the week it comes out on Netflix, but not much beyond that (see “The Good Nurse” last year, which also had its world premiere at TIFF). The use of Juice Newton’s “Angel Of The Morning” feels out of place, and the vibe of the trailer never gave off the impression that this had any higher sense of ambition. Benicia Del Toro will forever remain an exciting screen presence, but the supporting cast consisting of Justin Timberlake and Alicia Silverstone, sends an possible warning that this screenplay may not have been up to the level to attract more A-list talent.
