A24 has released the trailer for “Backrooms” starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve, Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, and Lukita Maxwell. The film will be released in theaters on May 29th.
Plot Synopsis: A therapist ventures into an otherworldly dimension in search of her missing patient. A strange doorway appears in the basement of a furniture showroom.
What do you all think of the trailer? I’m really into the premise of this, as the production design appears to be the standout. Kane Parsons really struck gold with the YouTube short, which this is based on, and at the young age of 21, is being given the keys to the kingdom with an A-list cast and a lot of backing from A24. I hope it works out well for him. The trailer itself seems a bit light on plot and appears to be more of an atmospheric horror film than a jump-scare one, which is fine by me, but I always worry about how these are marketed to a mass audience. I’m really intrigued by the overall construction of this and how it will play out as a feature film. I’m sure with Mark Duplass on set, Parsons received a lot of support on how to craft this, but I certainly like what I’m seeing so far. What do you all think of the trailer?
