Sony Pictures has released the trailer for Nia DaCosta’s “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple,” starring Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, Alfie Williams, Erin Kellyman, and Chi Lewis-Parry. The film will be released in theaters on January 16th.
Plot Synopsis: Expanding upon the world created by Danny Boyle and Alex Garland in “28 Years Later” – but turning that world on its head – Nia DaCosta directs “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.” In a continuation of the epic story, Dr. Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) finds himself in a shocking new relationship – with consequences that could change the world as they know it – and Spike’s (Alfie Williams) encounter with Jimmy Crystal (Jack O’Connell) becomes a nightmare he can’t escape. In the world of “The Bone Temple,” the infected are no longer the greatest threat to survival – the inhumanity of the survivors can be stranger and more terrifying.
What do you all think of the trailer? As promised, the sequel to “28 Years Later” (which I was a pretty big fan of) is coming out in January next year. Although no word has been heard regarding the installment, which Boytle is slated to return and direct, I’m really looking forward to seeing what DaCosta brings to this world. The screenplay is written once again by Alex Garland, and though Anthony Dod Mantle isn’t back as the DP, Academy Award-nominee Sean Bobbitt appears to have maintained the franchise’s gritty, visual aesthetic. The trailer certainly features more Ralph Fiennes than I expected, while we get a look at Jack O’Connell’s diabolical Jimmy. Cillian Murphy is expected to make an appearance at the end of the film, which would lead is into the third with Boyle returning to direct once again. It’s a shame that Sony hasn’t greenly that third yet, hopefully word of mouth gets around regarding the quality of “28 Years Later,” and that will make audiences want to seek this one out.
