By Daniel Howat
The story of Michael Peterson, the mysterious death of his wife Kathleen Peterson, and the subsequent investigation, trial, and fallout on their family has challenged and fascinated audiences for years, starting with the 2004 true crime documentary series by Jean-Xavier de Lestrade and now with HBO Max’s “The Staircase.” Written by Antonio Campos and Maggie Cohn, with Campos directing six out of the eight episodes, the series has garnered critical acclaim for its performances and the exhausting detail which went into the research behind one of the most puzzled over mysteries of our time. Campos and Cohn joined us for a discussion following the show’s finale to discuss their work on the series, what they really think happened to Kathleen Peterson, how the original documentary filmmakers are reacting to their portrayal in the series, and more. We hope you enjoy the conversation down below. Thank you.
