“The Ugly Stepsister” had its world premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival in the midnight section, where it received positive reviews for its style, performances, and body horror retelling of the fairy tale Cinderella from the point of view of Elvira (the ugly stepsister) who competes against her beautiful stepsister in a bloody battle for beauty. Debut filmmaker Emilie Blichfeldt and stars Lea Myren and Thea Sofie Loch Næss were all kind enough to speak with us about their work on the film, which you can listen to or watch below.
