The British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) has released this year’s longlists for Best Feature Documentary, which is sponsored by Intermission Film, and Best International Independent Film, which is sponsored by Champagne Taittinger. Fifteen films make the cut for Best Feature Documentary, which this year includes previous BIFA nominees Kevin Macdonald, Daisy-May Hudson, Sophie Compton, and Charlie Shackleton, alongside works from first-time filmmakers—six of whom have also been longlisted for BIFA Best Debut Director – Feature Documentary, as announced last week. The Best International Independent Film longlist also features 15 acclaimed and award-winning independent films from around the world, including new works from renowned directors Jafar Panahi, Park Chan-Wook, and Joachim Trier, who won this category in 2022 with “The Worst Person in the World.” The final five nominations in each category will be announced on Monday, November 3rd, with winners revealed at the 28th BIFA ceremony on Sunday, November 30th, at London’s iconic Roundhouse.
