According to The Hollywood Reporter, Renate Reinsve (“The Worst Person in The World“) will star opposite Pedro Pascal (“The Last of US“) in Zach Cregger’s new film “Weapons.” Cregger wrote the screenplay and will direct the feature. New Line is developing the project.
Not much is known about the film’s story besides that it’s focused on the disappearance of high schoolers in a small town. The film is described as an interconnected horror epic featuring multiple storylines. “Weapons” will also be tonally in the vein of the Paul Thomas Anderson film “Magnolia.” No other casting announcements have been made at the moment.
“Barbarian” was easily one of the biggest surprises of the past year. The film was adored by critics and audiences alike. It was also a box office success for 20th Century Studios. It was refreshing to see an original horror film perform well and deliver on such a dark and twisted concept. Audiences should be very excited to see what Cregger is cooking up with “Weapons.” The casting of Reinsve alone is excellent. Then you add Pascal (who’s apparently in every project now), and the potential for this film only goes up. The concept is very intriguing, especially with it being called a “multistoried horror epic.” The fact it is apparently in the vein of “Magnolia” is already an ambitious task. Audiences will just have to wait and see whenever “Weapons” comes out.
