According to Variety, renowned stand-up comedian Nate Bargatze has been tapped to host the 77th annual Primetime Emmy Awards. The ceremony will be broadcast live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 14th, starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on CBS. It will also be available to stream live and on-demand through Paramount+.
“It’s a huge honor to be asked to host such an iconic awards show and I’m beyond excited to work with CBS to create a night that can be enjoyed by families around the world,” said Bargatze.
“Nate is one of the hottest comics in the business with a remarkable and hilarious brand of comedy that deeply resonates with multi-generational audiences around the globe,” said Television Academy chair Cris Abrego. “We are thrilled to be able to leverage his one-of-a-kind perspective to entertain TV fans watching this year’s Emmy telecast.”
Bargatze is currently one of the most prominent figures in stand-up comedy. In 2024 alone, he sold over 1.2 million tickets during his tour, earning the title of the highest-grossing comedian worldwide, as reported by Pollstar. He has produced six stand-up specials, the latest being “Your Friend, Nate Bargatze” on Netflix. His earlier Netflix special, “The Greatest Average American,” earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Comedy Album. Additionally, Bargatze has hosted “Saturday Night Live” twice, where he debuted the viral “Washington’s Dream” sketch in 2023. This isn’t Bargatze’s first time working with CBS either. He previously partnered with the network on the holiday event “Nate Bargatze’s Nashville Christmas,” which aired on December 19th, 2024, from the legendary Grand Ole Opry.
The 2025 Emmy Award nominations will be announced on July 15th. Before the Primetime Emmy Awards, the Creative Arts Emmys will take place on September 6th and 7th.
