In what was a massive social media event that dominated the news cycle, Marvel announced the cast for the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday” by revealing an actor’s name on the back of an on-set chair every twelve minutes or so, totaling almost five and a half hours. The whole event was live-streamed and seen by millions of people. With some OG Avengers returning, the new Fantastic Four, the original X-Men and Thunderbolts cast members, along with the previously announced Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Victor Von Doom, which sent shockwaves through Comic-Con. The entire cast list can be read below. This will be the fifth film in the “Avengers” film series following “Avengers: Endgame” (2019), which went on to be Oscar-nominated for Best Visual Effects, grossed $2.799, and pleased many MCU fans, and the 39th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) overall. “Avengers: Doomsday” is now officially in production and will be directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo. It will be released in theaters on May 1st, 2026.

Many were quick to point out various MCU actors who were not announced today, including Tom Holland, Mark Ruffalo, Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, Charlie Cox, Jeremy Renner, Hailey Steinfeld, Samuel L. Jackson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Hayley Atwell, Teyonah Parris, Evangeline Lilly, Benedict Wong, Elizabeth Olsen, Tatiana Maslany, Famke Janssen, Halle Berry, Wesley Snipes, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield, just to name a few. With “Avengers: Secret Wars” set to release in theaters on May 7th, 2027 (also directed by the Russo Brothers), there’s still time for many of these beloved actors and their characters to appear.
