Following last year’s Italian director, actress, and producer Valeria Golino, this year American actor John C. Reilly (“Stan & Ollie“) is set to preside over the Un Certain Regard Jury, together with French director and screenwriter Alice Winocour (“Proxima“), German actress Paula Beer (“Undine“), French-Cambodian director and producer Davy Chou (“Return To Seoul“) and Belgian actress Émilie Dequenne (“Close“). Reilly will be in charge of awarding prizes for the Un Certain Regard section, which showcases art and discovery films by young auteurs.
This year, 20 films have been selected (one last addition to the selection is announced in this press release), including eight debut films. One last addition to the Un Certain Regard selection is “Salem” by Jean-Bernard Marlin. The 2022 Un Certain Regard top prize went to French directors Lise Akoka and Romane Gueret’s debut feature, “The Worst Ones.”
John C. Reilley had the following to say, “I have had so many life-changing moments at the Festival de Cannes (from my miraculous first trip with Paul Thomas Anderson to celebrating my 50th birthday from the Palais stage!), so to be chosen as the President of Un Certain Regard Jury is truly such an incredible honor. Many of the films I have been lucky to appear in have been selected by the Festival over these many years, and nothing feels as special as being invited to this amazing annual gathering of the very best cinema has to offer the world.
