As timely as ever, “Checkpoint Zoo” documents the daring rescue led by a heroic team of zookeepers and volunteers who risked their lives to save thousands of animals trapped in a zoo behind enemy lines during the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“Checkpoint Zoo” is directed by award-winning Filmmaker Joshua Zeman who has been dubbed as the “leading voice in the true-crime storytelling space,” with gripping documentaries under his belt such as “The Killing Season”, “Cropsey,” “The Son of Sam: A Descent into Darkness”, “Murder Mountain“ and “The Loneliest Whale: The Search for 52.”
With “Checkpoint Zoo,“ Zeman and his film crew spent time in wartime Ukraine and had exclusive and unrestricted access to Feldman Ecopark in Kharkiv as well as hundreds of hours of video and sound recordings that the park keepers and volunteers captured as they documented their evacuation.
Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way has come on board to support the upcoming theatrical release, which will be in theaters across North America beginning August 15th at The QUAD Cinema in New York.
