Exclusive – Clip From The Brazilian Dystopian Drama Film “The Blue Trail”

The Blue Trail(2026) follows Tereza, a 77-year-old woman who has spent her entire life in a small industrialized town in the Amazon. When she receives a government order forcing her to relocate to a remote senior housing colony—a settlement where the elderly are sent so younger generations can focus on productivity and economic growth—Tereza refuses to accept her fate. Determined to fulfill one final wish before her freedom is taken away, she embarks on a transformative journey through the rivers and tributaries of the Amazon, a decision that will change her destiny forever.

The Blue Trail” (or “O Último Azul”), the latest feature from visionary Brazilian filmmaker Gabriel Mascaro (“Neon Bull” and “Divine Love”), winner of the Silver Berlin Bear Grand Jury Prize at the Berlin International Film Festival, stars Denise Weinberg in a powerful lead performance and co-stars Rodrigo Santoro. The film, a striking dystopian drama, has been a standout at festivals including Toronto, Busan, Zurich, BFI London, Palm Springs, and Guadalajara.

With its immersive, lyrical storytelling, “The Blue Trail” continues Mascaro’s tradition of visually arresting, socially resonant cinema, celebrating resilience, intergenerational connection, and the courage to defy ageist and authoritarian constraints.

The film will open in North American theaters on Friday, April 3rd, at the Angelika Film Center in New York City and the Nuart Theatre in Los Angeles, with a national expansion to follow. A special sneak preview screening will take place at the Angelika Film Center on Monday, March 23rd, as part of the inaugural Art House Cinema Week New York.
