Plot Synopsis: Two teenagers from different ethnic backgrounds fall in love in 1950s New York City.
What do you all think of the trailer? We got our first look at Steven Spielberg’s vision for this new version of the classic show and Best Picture-winning film a few months ago, but this trailer certainly shows off more than before. I remain completely enamored with the visual style, choreography, and overall presentation of such a well-known story. Rachel Zegler is most likely going to blow up after the release of this, while the presence of Ansel Elgort (after his sexual assault accusations from last year) remains problematic and is making me very uncomfortable. I also still have personal reservations about a film that won Best Picture (I don’t care how long ago it was) being remade for a new audience when I would rather they watch the original. Still, I cannot deny what Spielberg and his team have put together here from a visual standpoint. The production design, cinematography and costumes all look fantastic. Plus, the screenplay is being written by one of the greatest writers of our generation, Tony Kushner. How awful could it possibly be? I guess we’ll find out soon enough. What do you think, though?
