Plot Synopsis: Dutch-Americanfootball coach Thomas Rongen is tasked with turning the American Samoa national team, considered one of the weakest football teams in the world, into an elite squad.
What do you all think of the trailer?
Despite garnering some divisive reactions in recent years for his work on the Marvel “Thor” franchise and his Oscar-winning “Jojo Rabbit,” I remain a fan of Taika Waititi’s humor (How can you not love him pointing out he’s a loser of an Academy Award and a Teen Choice Award in this trailer?) and the degree of bright, exuberant style he brings to each of his projects. This movie is giving me “Ted Lasso” vibes, and it looks like it could be heading to TIFF this year and snatch Waititi another People’s Choice Award. It’s also very nice to see Michael Fassbender on screen again after four years since “Dark Phoenix.” With this and “The Killer” set to come out later this year, I’m sure he’ll receive awards recognition for at least one of these films. Overall, I laughed and cannot wait to see this. Pay close attention to the fact that we’re in the middle of April, this doesn’t come out until later this year, and we already have a trailer for it. Do you know what other Searchlight films followed this strategy? “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” and “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” Searchlight must feel like they have a winner on their hands here.
