Warner Bros. Pictures has released the trailer for Academy Award-winner Bong Joon-ho’s “Mickey 17” starring Robert Pattinson, Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette & Mark Ruffalo. The film will be released in theaters on January 31st, 2025.
Plot Synopsis: A disposable employee is sent on a human expedition to colonize the ice world Niflheim. After one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact.
What do you all think of the trailer? We’ve all been eagerly anticipating the follow-up to Bong Joon-ho’s history-making Academy Award-winner “Parasite” for a few years now, ever since the “Mickey 17” teaser dropped in December 2022. Many, including myself, wondered why Warner Bros. would move the film entirely out of 2024 and elect for a Q1 2025 release date. Such a move suggests they don’t see this as an awards player, and it may be more quirky and peculiar than they anticipated, sort of along the lines of one of Bong Joon-ho’s previous films, “Okja.” In fact, having watched the trailer I’m beginning to think this may be the whackiest film from Bong Joon-ho yet and not at all what Warner Bros. was anticipating from him following “Parasite.” For example, we’ve seen Robert Pattinson play some nutty characters before but this looks to be his most eccentric work yet. I’m not quite sure what that accent is but I kind of love how odd it is for him. Overall, this looks wild and fun. What do you all think?
