A24 has released the official trailer for Alex Garland’s “Civil War” starring Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Cailee Spaeny, Jesse Plemons & Nick Offerman. The film will be released in theaters and in IMAX on April 26th, 2024.
Plot Synopsis: A race to the White House in a near-future America balanced on the razor’s edge.
What do you all think of the trailer? I can imagine everyone will approach this fairly and civilized (pun intended)…just kidding! This will likely be a hotly debated, discussed, and polarizing film for many as it’s showcasing a terrifying possibility for where this country may inevitably be heading (and during an election year, nonetheless). Garland’s previous film, “Men,” also garnered split reactions, but I’ve always been a massive fan of his work both as a writer and director. I’m happy to see Kirsten Dunst leading the film with an ensemble cast (including her husband, Jesse Plemons, who has the most tense moment of the trailer for me). The scale of the film is also bigger and more action-heavy than I expected, but given A24’s new direction they’re heading in, it looks like the right blend of commercial filmmaking while retaining their distinct brand of art house storytelling.
