Deadline reports that “The Instigators” cast will now include Alfred Molina, Ving Rhames, and Ron Perlman. The Apple Original Film is already set to star Matt Damon and Casey Affleck as two thieves who go on the run after a failed robbery with the help of their therapist. Hong Chau, Paul Walter Houser, and Michael Stuhlbarg also round out this stacked ensemble. The film will be directed by Doug Liman (“American Made“), with Casey Affleck and Chuck MacLean writing the screenplay.
With recent films in Liman’s filmography, such as “Chaos Walking” and “Locked Down” disappointing, I would usually be a bit hesitant with my anticipation for this one. This ensemble, though, is truly shaping up to be something special. Liman has also shown when the material is good, he can deliver a quality film such as with “The Bourne Identity” and “Edge of Tomorrow,” so maybe this will be one of his better efforts.
