Ladj Ly’s “Les Indésirables” Will Have Its World Premiere At TIFF 2023

Earlier today, it was announced that acclaimed French filmmaker Ladj Ly will return to the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) with the World Premiere of his latest film “Les Indésirables,” which translates to undesirables. A timely tale of revolution, the film captures a pivotal moment in France’s history and stars Alexis Manenti, Jeanne Balibar, Steve Tientcheu, and Anta Diaw.

Ladj Ly’s achieved success when his striking feature directorial debut “Les Misérables” won the Grand Jury Prize at Cannes, earned an Oscar nomination Best International Feature Film and won four César Awards including Best Film.

“We are honored to showcase Ladj Ly’s remarkable talent once again with the World Premiere of his latest work, ‘Les Indésirables’,” said Cameron Bailey, CEO of the Toronto International Film Festival. “This deeply personal film beautifully captures the struggles and aspirations of a community, reflecting Ly’s unparalleled storytelling skills.”

The much anticipated follow-up film from Ladj Ly is currently up for sale and will likely start a bidding war for anyone looking for a substantial contender for Best International Feature Film this year. The 48th edition of TIFF runs from September 7th until the 17th. Expect to see other big world premieres announced in the coming days. The full film festival schedule will be released sometime in August.
