According to Deadline, “Under The Banner Of Heaven” stars Andrew Garfield and Daisy Edgar-Jones are set to act in Sebastián Lelio’s new film “Voyagers.” Garfield will play real-life astronomer Carl Sagan, and Edgar-Jones will play Ann Druyan, the filmmaker behind the 1980 PBS documentary “Cosmos.” The screenplay is written by Lelio and Jessica Goldberg.
The film is an incredible and unexpected love story between Sagan (Garfield) and Druyan (Edgar-Jones) in 1977 as NASA is prepping to launch humanity’s first interstellar probes led by Sagan called “The Golden Record.”
“Voyagers” seems like quite a departure from Leilo’s previous films Oscar-winner “A Fantastic Woman,” “Disobedience,” “Gloria Bell,” and most recently, “The Wonder.” A race-against-the-clock drama meshed with a romance between great actors such as Garfield and Edgar-Jones sounds like something that would be an alternative to the traditional biopic and be a bit more mainstream than the rest of his filmography. Although, it does sound like it could be a mixture of “The Theory of Everything” and “First Man.” We’ll have to wait and see, but “Voyagers” could be special for both stars and its filmmaker in the awards conversation, depending on which distributor picks it up.
