Trailer – “The Tender Bar”

By Matt Neglia

Amazon Studios has released the trailer for “The Tender Bar” starring Ben Affleck, Tye Sheridan, Lily Rabe & Christopher Lloyd. The film will be released in theaters on December 17th, 2021, prior to streaming on Prime Video on January 7th, 2022.

Plot Synopsis: A boy seeks a replacement for his father, who disappeared shortly after his birth, and bonds with his uncle and the patrons at a bar.

What do you all think of the trailer? On the one hand, you have George Clooney directing, who has been turning out more misses than hits for me these last few years. On the other hand, you have this small-scale, sweet story which looks like it will have charming performances from its cast, mainly Ben Affleck. Shot during the pandemic, I’m curious to see how a light drama such as this translates for Clooney versus some of the larger films he’s made recently. However, because of his track record, I remain skeptical. It’s always a pleasure to see Christopher Lloyd on-screen, though, and Ben Affleck seems to be emotionally compelling as the protagonist’s uncle. What do you all think, though?
