Trailer – “Road House”

MGM Studios has released the official trailer for Doug Liman’s “Road House” starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, Darren Barnet, Arturo Castro, J.D. Pardo & Conor McGregor. The film will have its world premiere at SXSW and premiere on Prime Video on March 21st.

Plot Synopsis: In this adrenaline-fueled reimagining of the 80s cult classic, ex-UFC fighter Dalton (Jake Gyllenhaal) takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems.

What do you all think of the trailer? Serving as a remake of the 1989 film of the same name, I’m not too terribly excited to watch this one, although Jake Gyllenhaal is one of those actors I will follow wherever he goes. He’s such a magnetic, committed actor with a level of star quality that allows him to command the screen in any role he wants, whether it’s an action film such as this or if he’s a quirky supporting actor. Doug Liman has recently stated he will be boycotting the world premiere at SXSW due to not liking MGM’s decision to bring this film straight to Prime Video without a theatrical release, and I cannot say I blame him. This will likely play well with the SXSW crowd, and to not allow other audiences to experience it in theaters must be a real gut punch. With that said, the presence of Conor McGregor rubs me the wrong way, and nothing about this remake feels necessary. Still, at the very least, it looks somewhat entertaining due to Gyllenhaal’s charisma. What do you think of the trailer?
