Trailer – “Rebel Moon”

Netflix has released the official trailer for Zack Snyder’s “Rebel Moon” starring Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Michiel Huisman, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Cleopatra Coleman, Jena Malone, Ed Skrein, Fra Fee & Anthony Hopkins. Part One of the film will arrive on Netflix on December 22nd, titled “A Child Of Fire.” Part Two, titled “The Scargiver,” will come to Netflix on April 19th, 2024.

Plot Synopsis: In a universe controlled by the corrupt government of the Mother World, the moon of Veldt is threatened by the forces of the Imperium, the army of the Mother World controlled by Regent Balisarius. Kora, a former member of the Imperium who seeks redemption for her past in the leadership of the oppressive government, tasks herself to recruit warriors from across the galaxy to make a stand against the Mother World’s forces before they return to the planet.

What do you all think of the trailer? There appears to be enough material in this trailer not just for a two-and-a-half-hour film but for an entire miniseries (granted, there is a Part 2 coming in April, 2024). Like all Zack Snyder films, the trailer looks gorgeous and action-packed. While it’s tough to get a specific grasp of what the story is about, the barrage of beautiful images, epic-sized action, and voice over from the various characters talking about protecting each other, taking a stand, and fighting the good fight for survival will be enough to get many excited about this upcoming Christmas release. I do wonder if this will be an IMAX release or not in theaters from Netflix because the scope of this project certainly looks like it calls for it. Could this be a late-breaking Best Visual Effects Oscar contender? Snyder’s films don’t usually generate awards buzz but that category has at least two open slots, so anything is possible at this point. What do you all think, though?
