Trailer – “Nightbitch”

Searchlight Pictures has released the trailer for Marielle Heller’s “Nightbitch” starring Amy Adams & Scoot McNairy. The film will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and be released in theaters on December 6th.

Plot Synopsis: An artist who pauses her career to be a stay-at-home mum seeks a new chapter in her life and encounters just that, when her nightly routine takes a surreal turn and her maternal instincts begin to manifest in canine form.

What do you all think of the trailer?  Having never read the book, I wasn’t sure what to expect here, and the trailer’s tone did nothing to point me in either direction. I expected this to be much darker and more in the style of a psychological thriller. Instead, this feels like an early 2000s comedy. I have a ton of faith in Marielle Heller, considering she’s never missed with any of her previous films. But given Amy Adams’ choices as of late, I worry this might be another miss for her and a first for Heller. I’m happy to be proven wrong, though, as I’m flying to TIFF to find out for myself as we speak. At the very least, it looks more fun than I imagined with a physical performance from Adams, and I expect Heller to nail the commentary on the pressures of motherhood. What do you all think? Do you think Amy Adams will be an Oscar contender for Best Actress? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below or on our X account.
