Sony Pictures has released the official trailer for Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon” starring Joaquin Phoenix, Vanessa Kirby & Tahar Rahim. The film will be released in theaters on November 22nd, 2023.
Plot Synopsis: A look at the military commander’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to emperor, viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine.
What do you all think of the trailer? Nobody does big-screen epics anymore, quite like Ridley Scott. From “Gladiator” to “Kingdom Of Heaven,” the man knows how to combine practical effects and CGI to deliver historical epics on a scale that can still inspire awe, and very few stories are as large as Napoleon Bonaparte’s. The film reunites Scott with Academy Award-winner Joaquin Phoenix for the first time since “Gladiator,” it’ll be interesting to compare the Joaquin Phoenix of 2000 with the Joaquin Phoenix of 2023 under Scott’s direction. “Napoleon” marks the first time Scott is working with Vanessa Kirby, who took over from “The Last Duel’s” Jodie Comer and is said to have a significant role in the story. The battles look massive in scale; the production all around looks spectacular. However, the decision to have all the characters speak without French accents and the more mainstream presentation of this trailer makes me wonder if we’ll get a worthy Ridley Scott historian epic to sit alongside “The Last Duel” or if it will be a dud on the level of “Robin Hood” or “Exodus: Gods And Kings?”We never quite know which Ridley Scott will show up nowadays, but at 85 years of age, I think we should all be grateful the tough Englishman is still kicking.
