Walt Disney Animation Studios has released the trailer for the sequel to the hit 2016 Oscar-nominated film “Moana” with “Moana 2,” starring the returning voice talents of Auliʻi Cravalho, Dwayne Johnson & Alan Tudyk. The film will be released in theaters on November 27th.
Plot Synopsis: “Moana 2” reunites Moana and Maui three years later for an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.
What do you all think of the teaser trailer? Is anyone actively looking forward to this? Sure, “Moana” was a beloved film that did very well with critics and audiences upon its release in 2016. However, with such a large gap between then and now, the timing of the release of this sequel doesn’t have the same enthusiasm one would expect. The teaser didn’t do much to sway me either, as it featured very little dialogue pertaining to the story and focused more on the visuals (which still look just as stunning as they did eight years ago). I’m surprised they didn’t even manage to fit in the familiar sounds of the Oscar-nominated anthem from the first film, “How Far I’ll Go.” So, we didn’t get a taste of any new music or story. It certainly fits the bill of a teaser in that regard. Still, I feel Disney should be doing more to drum up more excitement for this project, which was once supposed to debut on Disney+ as a television series and has now been reworked (and possibly rushed?) into a feature-length film.
