Warner Bros. has released the trailer for Todd Phillips’s “Joker” sequel “Joker: Folie à Deux” starring Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga, Zazie Beetz, Steve Coogan, Brendan Gleeson & Catherine Keener. The film will be released in theaters on October 4th.

What do you all think of the trailer? Holy cinematography, Batman! I know many people are dreading this as much as they are anticipating it. Personally, I found the first film to be at times excellent but still flawed in many ways (I mostly enjoyed the conversations it sparked), and I’m hopeful that Gaga’s involvement will breathe new life into the somewhat stale formula from before (remember how much we complained it was ripping off Scorsese and De Niro’s “Taxi Driver” and “The King Of Comedy?”), potentially making for a thrilling and provocative sequel. It’s still insane to me how much money “Joker” made in 2019 and that it was an awards darling, earning Joaquin Phoenix a long overdue Oscar. Some will immediately forget their disdain for the first film just because Gaga is involved this time around. And while I find that hypocritical, I’m all for willing to keep an open mind to see what Phillips, Phoenix, and Gaga will deliver with this sequel. At a minimum, the teaser looks gorgeous, and the promise of musical fantasy sequences is intriguing. I anticipate the discourse surrounding this will be massive and the fandoms insufferable, but I’m willing to give it a chance. Are you? Is the world ready? What do you all think?
