Trailer – “Dream Scenario”

A24 has released the official trailer for Kristoffer Borgli’s “Dream Scenario” starring Nicolas Cage, Julianne Nicholson, Michael Cera, Tim Meadows, Dylan Gelula & Dylan Baker. The film will have its theatrical release on November 10th, 2023.

Plot Synopsis:Hapless family man Paul Matthews (Nicolas Cage) finds his life turned upside down when millions of strangers suddenly start seeing him in their dreams. But when his nighttime appearances take a nightmarish turn, Paul is forced to navigate his newfound stardom, in this wickedly entertaining comedy from writer-director Kristoffer Borgli (“Sick of Myself”) and producer Ari Aster.

What do you all think of the trailer? This was one of my absolute favorite movies at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. During this time when every new performance is heralded as a late-career peak for Nicolas Cage, what he accomplishes here is perfectly calibrated toward his strengths as a performer as he plays an average, everyday loser who becomes the center of attention when he starts randomly popping up in people’s dreams with no explanation given as to why. He could very well receive a Golden Globe nomination for his work, and who knows how far he might go in the Best Actor race overall, considering how much love there is for him. The screenplay’s commentary on cancel culture divided some audience members who saw it at TIFF. Still, no one could deny the high-wire act Kristoffer Borgli pulled off regarding the film’s surreal elements and dark comedy (some argued he achieved this more successfully than executive producer Ari Aster did with “Beau Is Afraid” earlier this year). This trailer perfectly captures the film’s bizarre tone and I cannot wait for more people to see it. What do you all think?
