“The Big Sick” was never supposed to get this far. It was simply always meant to be a small independent dramedy that would release during the summer and hopefully make some money for Amazon Studios. Ever since debuting at Sundance last year, “The Big Sick” has continued to defy expectations becoming a critical and box office office hit and also contending within this year’s awards season in various categories including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress (Holly Hunter) and Best Original Screenplay. Here to tell his story of what this year long awards season journey has been like for him, I am honored to have the writer and star of “The Big Sick,” Kumail Nanjiani on the Next Best Picture Podcast.
