“Whalefall” is an American survival thriller directed, co-written, and produced by Brian Duffield, based on Daniel Kraus’s 2023 novel. The film follows a scuba diver (Austin Abrams) who, while searching for the remains of his father (Josh Brolin), is swallowed alive by a sperm whale and attempts to escape. Elisabeth Shue, John Ortiz, Jane Levy, and Emily Rudd also star in supporting roles. The film has received positive reviews for its craft, including its claustrophobic production design, immersive sound, and seamless visual effects. Duffield was kind enough to spend some time talking with us about his work and experience making the film, which you can watch or listen to below. Please be sure to check out the film, which will release in theaters on October 16th from 20th Century Studios. Thank you, and enjoy!
